Be warned this is a very long read. Like he said his was an na originally. After he spun a rod bearing he decided to do the tt swap. He had the car in monroeville I think with a guy who wasnt too familiar with z's. After that he had it in the high performance powertrain shop up there at wyotech. I was in the street rod class so i wasnt able to help other than a few suggestions here and there. The jdm engine has given him problems from the start and most of the instructors in the shop didnt help him either. He pulled it out of the shop and to my garage days before he moved to Georgia. He needed the intake pipes under the headlights and bernie had those so he replaced them.
When he turned his key and the fuel pump primed i heard injectors leaking so he pulled the plenum and replaced the orings on all of the injectors. I then put my air compressor to it to verify that they were not leaking any more. After that his fuel dampner was making a terrible noise and his fuel pump was loud so it sounded like it was clogged. I had some spare fuel injection line laying around so we bypassed it. He had an aftermarket fpr with a guage on it so i set the fuel pressure to 42 psi with the fuel pump primed but it is not a high qualit fpr so it might not be accurate. After that we put the boost leak tester on and there were boost leaks in about every spot possible. I helped him install his recircs, plug the vacuum fittings not being used and tighten loose clamps. At the time I believe he had the FICD out since the connector was broken and im not sure if hes replaced it since then. He did get a new one in though. Even after fixing about 10 boost leaks the needle still never even fluctuated and there were some more leaks. I believe the problem has to do with the boost leaks or the 120k kit since it was his first time and the guy that was working with him was not familiar with z's. All of his injectors ohm out within specs. His ptu and cam sensor are fine because we tested them on my tt. I put in another maf sensor that does work fine. I had that one set aside for whenever I go to a selin or ash planar intake. He does have the wrong sparks plugs and the gap was at .060 on some of them so I set it to 35 even though its not the correct plugs I figured it would help and i told him which spark plugs to get. He is getting spark on all cylinders. He is using a jdm ecu but it should still atleast start with that ecu. My ecu has the zemulator installed with a 740cc tune so we didnt have enough time for me to swap them and change the tune to the stock program. His wiring harness is also new and its a 91 tt harness I believe. It requires the ptu sub harness and has the old syle injector clips. I wish i could have helped him more but time was very limited. Good luck with your swap kevin. Once you get it running all your frustrations will be forgotten.
